Katie PhamThe woman found dead last week just outside Ridgecrest has been identified as Kathryn Dawn Pham.
Pham, 21, was found around 11 a.m. last Tuesday in the 900 block of West Skylark Avenue. She died at the scene from traumatic injuries, deputies said.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine cause and manner of death, sheriff’s officials said.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the death as a homicide. They've already arrested the suspected killer.
Daniel Gunnarsson, 20, has been charged with murder and mutilating a corpse in connection to the death.
If convicted of both charges, Gunnarsson could land in prison forever.
Gunnarsson was arraigned May 20 after he was arrested May 18. He is being held without bail.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. June 18 at the Metro Division in Bakersfield.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 661-861-3110 or Secret Witness at 661-322-4040.
Vigil set for Thursday
The death has led to an outpouring of grief from the greater Ridgecrest community. A memorial candlelight vigil for Pham — who was known by her friends as Katie — is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Ridgecrest's Petroglyph Park.
Flameless candles will be provided and the event is open to all.
